Questions
- Matt, can you give everybody a little background about your start in design and what you focus on? How long have you been in business and what services do you provide? Who do you normally serve (audience)?
- Why is helping creatives important to you? Why have you been focusing your business on this?
- As you look back on things you had to learn the hard way, are there any tips you regularly share with creatives that made a significant difference in your business’ growth?
- Your book, “Create & Prosper” is incredible and you talk about an experiment you did on Linked In with creatives asking them if you can introduce them to someone in your network and who they serve or want to work with. This was a compelling finding. Can you tell people about it?
- Why do you think so many creatives miss this part and don’t practice explaining who they want to work with as they pivot and grow?
- How have you built your team? What was hard about hiring your first contractor? How was that different from hiring a full time or part time employee?
- Mindset seems to be a huge hurdle for so many entrepreneurs, not just creative entrepreneurs. Why do you think it is the case? Lack of business knowledge, working alone, no trusted advisors?
- What role do you see empathy playing in your conversations with people or potential customers?
- Often people don’t value the interactions with clients as anything but transactional. Why is starting any business relationship more about building a relationship and less about asking for the sale on the first date?
- You talk in the book at two islands and some people already know how to get from A to B but others don’t know and are talking to us and are asking advice from us as the expert. How do we shift conversations so we are seen as the expert rather than order taker? What is required of someone to be that expert? Years of experience does that come into play here?
- How do you recharge? What inspires you?
- Is there a quote or something that you keep close to help you get through tough times?
- What is next?
