This week we are talking to my friend Ian Jähns and he ALWAYS has questions. He is a curious person but has been able to fast track through business and building a business by being willing to ask these questions but also because he wants to know how things work.
Ian has a hunger for knowing how businesses work, why they do the things they do, say the things they say. And instead of wondering he asks the questions. He also has been given more responsibility as a result of that and then learned it and was able to implement it in his business.
We are going to cover pitfalls from lawsuits to family business issues as well as using the down time during COVID to start his wife, Dana’s business. He has done so much in a few years and I am excited to introduce you to my friend Ian.
Ian is a brand designer, strategist, and most known for his experiential design. Yes even during COVID, Ian has been instrumental in creating safe spaces for the public, think Super Bowl!

- Ian, can you give everybody a little background about your start in design and what you focus on? How long have you been in business and what services do you provide? Who do you normally serve (audience)?
- You have been able to grow as a person and an entrepreneur at a fast rate. How have you done that? Is this just who you are or is it something that others can replicate in their own lives?
- As you look back to what you have learned, are there any tips you can share that you have implemented that have made a difference in your business’ growth?
- What kinds of lessons did you learn in your first business that you bring to your current business? Did you see that as a failure? How did you bounce back?
- Where did you develop this growth mindset? Were you a half full perspective person even when you were younger?
- You are a solopreneur and hire contractors as needed but what are you working towards? What kinds of visioning work have you done to plan for the next stages in your business? (bat chair)
- What is your motivation to build your business?
- How have you been able to apply all you learn (from multiple industries) to solve creative problems? Any examples of what you have done?
- You are an incredibly resourceful person. I love how you venture out and explore many different avenues and sources of information you glean information from. What resources do you think many creatives might overlook that are available to them?
- How was the Superbowl even more of a challenge this year compared to years past because of COVID?
- At the beginning of COVID your wife, Dana decided to take the forced off time to build out her business, can you tell us about it?
- How much do you attribute your growth to curiosity and being willing to take risks? How does someone begin embracing risk-taking in life or business?
