Creating and using a variable font when learning to read is helping to promote literacy.

This week we have a returning guest, Thomas Jockin. Thomas is an educator, a lover of type, and a practitioner (he creates fonts). He has been working on a very interesting project that is helping fight for literacy in a new way.

He was hired by Educational Therapist, Dr. Bonnie Shaver-Troup to create a variable font which allows each person to set the spacing of the words. Then he got Google to fund the project. We will talk about how he got this project and what they are hoping to accomplish by using variable type to teach people to read.
